Thursday 19 February, 2015 marked a milestone in South Africa’s realm of Banting with the launch of SA’s first ever low-carb-high-fat Banting Conference which took place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The celebrated launch dinner, boasting celebrity guests like Tim Noakes and Mrs. South Africa, commenced shortly after the Conference AGM  at the official Banting Kitchen Restaurant based at Greenpoint’s prestigious Cape Royale Luxury Hotel.

The newly appointed Executive Chef, Brian van Zijl, and his team wowed the prestigious guests with his recently launched Banting menu, boasting creative new dishes like Game Fish Ceviche, Norwegian Salmon with Lobster as well as the famous Banting Lasagne.

With organiser Karen Thomson at the helm, key note speakers from across the globe including: Gary Taubes (American author of Nobel Dreams, Bad Science: The Short Life and Weird Times of Cold Fusion, and Good Calories, Bad Calories, titled The Diet Delusion in the UK and Australia), Steven Thomson, Professor Tim Noakes, Aseem Malhotra, Tom Raynor, Eric Westman (Author of new Atkins Diet), Jay Wortman and Steve Phinney. The first seating saw an auditorium of 500 attendees soaking up knowledge on better health practice and over 600 seats filled on day two, setting the food-focussed affair off to a stellar start.

Cape Royale Gives Back

On Friday, 18 July 2014, the Cape Royale Luxury Hotel and Spa Management team grouped together for their 67 minutes of giving back to the community for Mandela Day.

With 67 lunch parcels the team headed out to disseminate the food packs to homeless and other less fortunate Cape Town inhabitants. Additionally, 67 copies of the Big Issue were purchased from various vendors throughout the area, which were subsequently offered to guests upon check in at the hotel later that afternoon.

“We continuously strive to assist in improving the lives and education of our in-house staff, today we took the opportunity to give back to the community at large in our neighbourhood, in honour of Mandela Day and the immense good that Tata Mandela stood for in his courageous and positively revolutionary life which he dedicated to the people of his country,” says Cape Royale Luxury Hotel and Spa MD, Johann du Plessis.

Mediterranean Delicacies Gourmet Luncheon with the Drunken Tuscan

Celebrity Chef, Lapo Magni, also known as The Drunken Tuscan, hosted a Mediterranean Delicacies infused luncheon at the Cape Royale Luxury Hotel and Spa’s Villa Louise on Tuesday 24th June, 2014. The Drunken Tuscan whipped up a Mediterranean inspired feast for his VIP guests at the luxury villa, showcasing exotic dishes like his speciality: Climaxing Risotto, where a three cheese risotto is infused with the Nitida Matriarch Chardonnay Pinot Noir MCC; followed by slow roasted lamb shanks stuffed with garlic, rosemary, Medi Deli Calamata olives, sun dried tomatoes and anchovies, with Tzatziki Royal served on the side. Rounding off on a sweet note, the Drunken Tuscan fired things up with his homemade Pistachio Halva Ice Cream on a smoking display of dry ice. “I wanted to show my guests a fantastic gastronomic experience using gorgeous Mediterranean Delicacies ingredients, paired beautifully with exquisite Nitida wines, and what better venue than the Cape Royale Villas” says Lapo Magni.
