Thursday 19 February, 2015 marked a milestone in South Africa’s realm of Banting with the launch of SA’s first ever low-carb-high-fat Banting Conference which took place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The celebrated launch dinner, boasting celebrity guests like Tim Noakes and Mrs. South Africa, commenced shortly after the Conference AGM  at the official Banting Kitchen Restaurant based at Greenpoint’s prestigious Cape Royale Luxury Hotel.

The newly appointed Executive Chef, Brian van Zijl, and his team wowed the prestigious guests with his recently launched Banting menu, boasting creative new dishes like Game Fish Ceviche, Norwegian Salmon with Lobster as well as the famous Banting Lasagne.

With organiser Karen Thomson at the helm, key note speakers from across the globe including: Gary Taubes (American author of Nobel Dreams, Bad Science: The Short Life and Weird Times of Cold Fusion, and Good Calories, Bad Calories, titled The Diet Delusion in the UK and Australia), Steven Thomson, Professor Tim Noakes, Aseem Malhotra, Tom Raynor, Eric Westman (Author of new Atkins Diet), Jay Wortman and Steve Phinney. The first seating saw an auditorium of 500 attendees soaking up knowledge on better health practice and over 600 seats filled on day two, setting the food-focussed affair off to a stellar start.
