Institute Market Agents of South Africa Panel Discussion & AGM 2013

The Institute Market Agents of South Africa (IMASA) is set to host its annual 68th IMASA AGM this year at the prestigious, five-star hotel, Cape Royale. This two day event will start off with the Annual Panel Discussion, taking place on Thursday, 19 September 2013, which for the last three AGMs has drifted from the norm of IMASA, with the actual AGM following the next day on Friday, 20 September 2013. Market Agents from across the country are invited to attend the conference and also to partake in industry matters as well as current affairs. The popularity of the two-day IMASA AGM 2013 is further enhanced by the generous support of sponsors who are appreciate the excellent opportunity to gain valuable exposure in the fresh produce markets sector. Founded in 1945 in Bloemfontein when South Africa had over 130 markets and around 600 market agencies operating on those markets, there was a need to form some kind of official representation for the market agents. After having experienced a low period in history, IMASA formed a new, younger breed of market agents who with a series of Presidents, began to reshape the organisation and give it new direction. IMASA hit a milestone with Project Rebirth, where members voted for Project Rebirth to be set in motion at the IMASA AGM in 2011 at Umhlanga Rocks. Project Rebirth has made a significant impact on the fresh produce markets scene and has contributed towards real improvements which are currently taking place on some markets. Moreover, it’s created an awareness of the gravity of many of our markets amongst significant role-players and has helped to bring these role-players together in a united forum to address the many issues facing markets. IMASA has handed over Project Rebirth to the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) but continues to make its contribution on the Steering Committee which is now driving Project Rebirth. The theme for this years’ Panel Discussion is “Markets: Quo Vadis” which is the Latin meaning for “Where are you going?” The Panel Discussion will be followed by cocktails at the exclusive VIP Sky Bar situated on the roof top of Cape Royale, and then dinner at the elegant Bistro 1800 restaurant. IMASA together with its lead sponsor Cape Town Market amongst others are set to raise this year’s bar.
