The new menu consists of flavourful, uncomplicated and healthy dishes.

Chef, Jonathan Gargan, and Food and Beverage manager, George Sakulias, combined local, fresh ingredients, innovation and professional artistry to present a menu which offers uncomplicated and flavourful dishes. “There are many factors that come into play when compiling a menu”, says Sakulias, “firstly you have to decide on the concept that you would like to achieve and the identity of what you would like to establish. The concept created for Bistro 1800 is hearty, comfort food where the guest may treat themselves to an experience that is authentic, but homely”. Bistro 1800 believes that providing seasonal foods to a health-conscious clientele is very important. It is also important to maintain the integrity of the food source when cooking with specific ingredients. Simplicity is the secret when it comes to describing the overall style of the revamped menu.

The self-catering apartment offers a fully equipped kitchen and the open area living space consists of a modern 4-seater glass dining room table, a gorgeous ivory leather lounge set and a flat screen TV with DSTV. The master suite has a full en suite bathroom and the guest bedroom makes use of the second bathroom with shower. Boerewors and Craft Beer – Gourmet Boerie launches in South Africa

By | Cape Town, Cape Town Restaurants, Food and Wine, Restuarants, Travel | No Comments
The Boerie landed! It is no secret that Boerewors is one of the most renowned traditional dishes in the South African cuisine. Whether you braai it with your chops, steam it with mash and veggies or eat it on your meaty pizza, every South African loves a good boerie – especially with an ice cold Craft Beer! But like most good things, the traditional boerie has been due for an upgrade and thus a diverse group of top South African entrepreneurs would like to introduce to South Africa: GOURMET BOERIE. The concept behind Gourmet Boerie is all about the traditional Boerewors roll and Craft Beer, with a touch of pizzazz! It boasts a proudly South African stamp, with every item in-store produced locally by South Africans in South Africa. Ingredients have been sourced from local suppliers, all menu items are manufactured in SA and all merchandise and staff uniforms are made from native hemp – even the furniture has been created by a local designer. The three Craft Beers – Jack Black, Darling Brew and Devils Peak – are pumped from a cold room on site, ensuring ever-cold beer. Local SAB beer, as well as ciders and spritzers for the ladies, are also available. “We are a Proudly South African business that sells an iconic South African brand in a really fun, sexy and creative space that will be appealing to all South Africans and tourists alike,” pronounces Craig Bright, co-founder of Gourmet Boerie and owner of Rocking the Daisies. So what’s on the menu? Silwood-trained, Kate Marek, is taking the reins of running the kitchen after culinary vocations in food capitals of the world – London and Melbourne. Marek’s creations for Gourmet Boerie include The Breakfast Boerie, The Gorgonzola, The Hangover, The Herbiwors, and even a Kiddies Boerie. Gourmet Boerie has something for everyone! Local Entrepreneur Champions Sustainability

A South African businessman is leading the way in eco-friendly tourism and sustainability education. Peter Hayward, CEO and founder of Hayward’s Grand Safari Events and Expeditions, is passionate about causes such as combating rhino poaching in southern Africa, sustaining African culture and lifestyle in rural settings and improving the socio-economic status of ordinary South Africans. Hayward’s safaris are held throughout the African continent and expose global business leaders, celebrities and politicians to the sustainable lifestyles of the African people, as well as the beauty of the African continent, in order to inspire a positive change of thinking towards sustainability. Involved in rhino preservation since the early 90’s as chairman of the Breeding Endangered Species Trust, Hayward was instrumental in influencing several rhino breeding programs by creating unique awareness and fund raising campaigns. Rhino preservation forms an integral part of his safari programs with illustrious groups of opinion leaders and decision makers being taken to rhino preservation projects around southern Africa to experience rhino in their natural habitat and what it takes to protect this beast from extinction. Whilst on such expeditions to secret locations, guests are also invited to work hand in hand with officially appointed veterinary surgeons to assist in procedures such as applying tracking devices or obtaining blood for DNA testing. Hayward believes that educating business leaders as to the plight of the rhino is key to ensuring its survival, as commerce and trade are the root cause of its dwindling numbers. Sharing a deep love for the African continent and its people, Hayward believes Africa has a vital role to play in humanity’s future. Despite being plagued by greed, war mongering and ethnic tensions (not unique to Africa), Africans show a resilience and versatility to even the most abject conditions and all the while remain positive throughout. Communities in rural Africa live completely “off the grid” and are wholly sustainable, starkly contrasting the overcrowded and unsustainable urban communities of the west. Given the respect and recognition they deserve, Hayward is of the opinion that these rural communities could provide valuable insight into sustainable living and long term survival. Hayward’s safaris invite their VIP groups to experience firsthand the compassion and tolerance that the people living in these communities possess in order to learn from them. By bringing urban opinion leaders into contact with rural communities, Hayward provides a bridge to lessen the gap and foster a greater understanding of one another’s role and importance in humanity’s future. Hayward’s family heritage has played an important role in the foundation of Hayward’s Grand Safari Events and Expeditions with his ancestors having first set foot on Africa in the 1820’s and becoming true pioneers of African travel. Maintaining this legacy of exploration and adventure, Hayward may now claim the title of the world’s grandest mobile safari tented camp which accommodates guests throughout Africa in 5 star camps that are completely eco-friendly and sustainable. Through his company, Hayward’s Grand Safari Events and Expeditions, Hayward has managed to successfully blend tourism with education. His safaris provide not only an authentically African experience, but also encourage thought leaders to learn from the people of Africa, taking heed of their sustainable practices and resource management. Furthermore, by experiencing the beauty of the continent and it’s animals firsthand, Hayward aims to stress the importance of animal preservation so that they may be enjoyed by generations to come.
